Jersey NEDs group launched

Posted: 06/10/2017

A new LinkedIn Group, called j-ned, has been launched for Non-Executive Directors in Jersey.

Founded by Sarah Garrood, Partner of Maven Partners, and Louise Follain, Non-Executive and Chartered Director, the group is aimed at all existing Jersey NEDs and anyone considering becoming a NED. Those seeking to refer work to NEDs or appoint NEDs to their board can also join.

The group aims to hold two or three networking events a year, depending on corporate sponsorship.

A free-to-attend launch event will be held on Thursday 12 October at the Berni Gallery, Jersey Arts Centre, from 8am to 10am. Guest speakers include Huw Thomas, Counsel at Carey Olsen, who will give a presentation on GDPR for NEDs, and Andy Jarrett, Group CEO of Twelve40, who will present on Cyber security for NEDs.

The group’s LinkedIn page spells out its key aims:
• To create a wider community for NEDs to be accessible and interactive with each other
• To provide an online platform for NEDs to network, discuss and debate relevant issues and share technical knowledge
• To encourage diversity from all areas – background, education, experience, age
• To facilitate the development of the next generation of NEDs in Jersey
• To provide a gateway for those searching for a professional NED

Louise Follain commented: “Sarah and I met at the BL NED Forum earlier this year. We wanted to create a way of connecting NEDs at all stages of their career and with different fields of expertise.

“Our hopes are that it will gain momentum and really be used by NEDs to network and debate topical and technical issues affecting boards. We would encourage all members of the group to participate by using it as a portal for industry discussion.”
