Guernsey publishes cyber security advice

Posted: 01/11/2018

The Guernsey Financial Services Commission has this week published cyber security advice and information on its website, including links to the latest guidance issued by the UK National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).

The Commission believes cyber and information security should be a high priority for organisations and that all financial services firms and prescribed businesses in Guernsey should have a well-thought-through approach to managing cyber and information security risks.

William Mason, the Commission’s Director General, said: “Cyber threats are constantly evolving and are not limited by geographical borders. Many attacks from cyber criminals are not sophisticated, and the likelihood of being a victim of data theft or ransomware attack can be dramatically reduced by sensible cyber policies which are actually applied.”

The Commission has also decided to undertake a thematic review of cyber security across supervised firms. A sample of 120 firms have been asked to complete a questionnaire and the outcomes of the thematic work will be taken into account in when developing the Commission’s guidance.

Any firms that are not in the sample group and who want to complete the survey can find more information about how to participate by visiting the Commission’s website.
