Private equity will be under the spotlight at this year's Channel Islands Funds Forum in association with KPMG in the Channel Islands.

The third annual forum hosted by businesslife.co will be held in Guernsey for the first time and will feature an exceptional group of industry leaders, both local and off island, who will be sharing their knowledge and learning more about the Channel Island market.

The focus of the “Private Equity: Walking the Wire” conference will be on the future of private equity, the impact of the AIFMD, the real tax challenges facing private equity on both sides of the Atlantic and the City's view of offshore private equity fund formations.

The forum will take place at St Pierre Park Hotel on Wednesday 4 July and more than 100 delegates are expected to attend.

After opening remarks by the forum's Chairman, Mark Thompson, Managing Director of KPMG in the Channel Islands, the day will be spent exploring opportunities and examining how to manage risks within this highly competitive market.

The level of expert speakers this year is extremely high and they will be providing very relevant thoughts and advice to the Channel Islands funds industry.

The key note speaker will be the British Private Equity & Venture Capital Association (BVCA) Chief Executive, Mark Florman (pictured), who will provide a view from the voice of the UK's private equity and venture capital industry.

Mr Florman will then be joined by Elly Livingstone, a Partner at Pantheon and Colm O'Sullivan a Partner at PAI Partners who will lead a discussion on the outlook for 2012 and beyond. This discussion will be moderated by financial journalist and former reporter at Private Equity News, Jennifer Bollen.

Giles Swan, ICI Global Director of Global Funds Policy, will provide an overview of the current position of the AIFM Directive and then another panel of speakers will develop the practical implications of this topic on third countries.

The panel will include Jarrod Cowley-Grimmond, the States of Guernsey Finance Sector Development Director, Mike Jones, ICI Global Director of Global Funds Policy and Tom White, Deputy Director of the Channel Islands Brussels Office. This panel will be moderated by Neale Jehan, Executive Director at KPMG in the Channel Islands.

After lunch another panel will discuss the tax challenges facing fund managers on both sides of the Atlantic. On this panel will be Apax Partners' David Marks, KPMG Cayman Islands Partner Doug Harrell and KPMG in the Channel Islands Executive Director, Tony Mancini.

Another panel of experts will end the day with a discussion on the City's view of offshore and where private equity will go next. Lisa Cawley and Richard Watkins, Kirkland & Ellis International LLP Partners and SJ Berwin Partner, Tamasin Little will be on the panel moderated by Ben Robins, a Partner at Mourant Ozannes.

Heather MacCallum, Executive Director of KPMG in the Channel Islands said that she was looking forward to the discussions and expertise the private equity experts will bring to the third annual Channel Islands Funds Forum conference.

“The speakers and panellists will provide a huge amount of opportunity for debate as well as bringing some ideas to the table for future growth for Channel Island businesses within this very challenging market.

“As we know it is vital we maintain our competitive edge. Those delegates who are able to take the time out to attend the forum will no doubt come away with a great deal of insight and opportunities within this sector.”

The conference begins at 9 a.m. and will close at approximately 4 p.m.
