The Guernsey Financial Services Commission has hosted a series of meetings held by the International Organisation of Securities Commission (IOSCO) Committee 4 and Screening Group, which focuses on cross-border security issues.

The meetings, attended by representatives from 29 countries, discussed the global threats, and standards required, to enable credible enforcement measures by financial services regulators.

Other subjects included the exchange of information around securities and investments, with a focus on market abuse, market manipulation and insider dealing.

IOSCO includes nominated representatives from regulatory authorities across the globe and has a membership of more than 114 countries.

Committee 4 focuses on cross-border securities issues concerning new products that may pose a risk to investors. IOSCO then considers ways to regulate against any threats to consumers.

Simon Gaudion, the GFSC’s Director of Enforcement, who sits on Committee 4 and the Screening Group, said: “It’s very helpful to the bailiwick that the Commission has a seat on this IOSCO committee. It ensures that when matters such as new global standards are being discussed, we are present and able, alongside other jurisdictions, to put the case for a proportionate approach to be taken.”
