CISE opens Jersey office

The Channel Islands Securities Exchange (CISE) has opened an office in Jersey at The Forum on Grenville Street in St Helier.

Channel Islands’ finance professionals attended a launch party at the Royal Yacht in St Helier last night (Tuesday 3 February) to celebrate the opening of the Jersey branch of the CISE. Speeches were given by Senator Philip Ozouf, Jersey’s Assistant Chief Minister; Jon Moulton, CISE Chairman; and Fiona Le Poidevin, newly appointed CEO of the CISE.

Whilst historically based in Guernsey, the Exchange has always served both islands, with roughly 50 per cent of business originating from each and so it was felt that a Jersey presence was a logical way to improve service for Jersey-based customers.

Jon Moulton, who introduced the event, said: “The opening of our Jersey branch was in part in response to feedback received from our membership during 2014 as a way of strengthening our relationship with our members and particularly those in Jersey by having people on the ground. It’s another milestone for the Exchange – we should have done this years ago”.

The Exchange had a successful 2014, ending the year with 2,274 securities listed in total and 69 new listings being added in the month of December alone. It now has a total market capitalisation of around £293bn.

Fiona Le Poidevin added: “We now wish to build on this recent success, with diversification into new products and the creation of more liquidity on the Exchange both being firmly on the agenda for 2015 and beyond. ...We are hoping to develop opportunities in the mining and extractive industry sector and we have also seen some initial enquiries in the Fintech space, specifically in relation to areas such as crowdfunding and peer to peer lending."
