The Jersey Chamber of Commerce has announced details of its September Chamber Lunch.
The event – 'Through the eyes of your customer: how listening to your customers’ negative experiences can be a valuable source of business intelligence' – will take place on 12 September at the Royal Yacht, St Helier.
It will feature as its guest speaker Douglas Melville, Principal Ombudsman and Chief Executive at the Channel Islands Financial Ombudsman (CIFO), which works to resolve consumer issues arising from the provision of financial services in and from the Channel Islands.
Melville will highlight the challenges and opportunities for businesses from all sectors. He will present a series of case studies from CIFO’s first years of operation, illustrating the value of good customer communication and the law of unintended consequences.
Appointed as the first Channel Islands Financial Ombudsman in 2015, Melville was recently elected to the board of the Ombudsman Association. He advises internationally on financial consumer protection, financial inclusion and dispute resolution for governments and international bodies, including the World Bank and the OECD.
