Waves cancels flights

Nick MagliocchettiRecently launched Channel Island airline Waves has cancelled its flights and bookings until 1 September.

All passengers with bookings during this period will be offered a full refund or the chance to rebook later in the year.

Waves founder Nick Magliocchetti (pictured) said the business would refocus before recommencing operations in September. “It's been a tumultuous 12 months,” he said. “We felt the time was right to take a pause.”

Launched in January 2017, Waves began commercial operations in October and, several weeks later, was served notice in a judicial review between local operator Blue Islands and the States of Guernsey Transport Licencing Authority.

Waves was required to remove individual seat sales in favour of whole aircraft charters during this inquiry and began the route licence application process. The TLA subsequently awarded Waves unrestricted route licences on the Guernsey-Jersey and Guernsey-Alderney routes.

Magliocchetti said Waves was taking the next two months to restructure and look at expansion in its fleet and its routes.
