Stanley Gibbons has appointed John Gregory as the expanding Group's new Financial Controller. The immediate focus of John's role will be to regulate accounts for the whole group after recent acquisitions.

John is looking forward to linking the company's various brands together, ‘This is an innovative time for Stanley Gibbons with its online expansion, and yet it is an incredibly established and strong brand that is well respected. The people who collect stamps love examining all the minute details that make each stamp so unique and to manage their expectations with the new online system that involves scanning them in and creating online databases is going to be interesting and challenging. The brand strength means we can be bold about what we do, but at the same time we must ensure we protect our existing customers' interests too.'

Prior to joining Stanley Gibbons, John worked for LMA in Jersey and also worked for content management software company Vignette in the UK.

Chief Operating Officer and Finance Director Donal Duff said, ‘We are pleased that John has agreed to join us at this exciting time. Stanley Gibbons has several new subsidiaries in the UK and Channel islands, and John's role will be to bring those accounts together and make sure we implement new business systems to make our accounts work efficiently across the many different strands of the business. John's prior experience in software companies will also be an advantage in this new era for Stanley Gibbons.'

John is married and has one son aged 25 and a 21 year old daughter who has just graduated and will be going into teaching like her mother.

Although originally from the UK, John is a long time fan of Jersey, ‘We came on holiday with my son as a baby, he's now 25, and we loved it. We came on holiday every year for fifteen years after that, and my wife and I spent years looking for a job opportunity here. Then one day my dream came true and we've been here for the past nine years.'

John lives in Trinity and after qualifying as a cricket umpire enjoys umpiring at weekends in the summer, or putting the world to right with walks on St Ouen's beach with his wife. He used to collect coins as a child, which are still somewhere in his loft, ‘I think now will be a good time to dig them out again.'
