Ogier formalises Local Legal Services team

Jonathan Hughes OgierA cross-practice team at Ogier in Jersey and Guernsey has been formalised to create the Ogier Local Legal Services team which provides pan-Island legal services for local Channel Islands businesses and individuals. Services include competition law; corporate and commercial; employment; commercial property and related services, property finance, regulatory law, estate planning and litigation.

Ogier Partner and Head of the Channel Islands Local Legal Services team, Jonathan Hughes (pictured) said "Our roots are firmly in the Channel Islands and we have always provided advice to large and small businesses across both islands. Our clients find being able to have advice across several service lines with one main point of contact is invaluable. We want to make it easier for all businesses to get the advice that they need quickly and easily and from a seamless team that can align its advice with its client's business needs."

The team gives local legal advice to Channel Islands business including banks, trust companies, private family offices, retailers, landlords, developers, tenants, land owners, agricultural companies, accountancy firms, mortgage companies, IT companies, hotel owners and operators, media companies, utility companies and insurers.

The Ogier Local Legal Services team have recently advised UK group Claverley and Jersey's Guiton Group on its sale of pan-island IT business ITEX to the C5 Alliance Group. The deal which completed on 31 July, marked a significant milestone for members of the Ogier team who had originally assisted Guiton with its acquisition of ITEX almost 13 years ago.

Paul Burton, Managing Associate at Ogier in Jersey commented on Ogier's role in the transaction "Acting for the Guiton Group on the sale of the ITEX business is an excellent example of the depth of skill amongst Ogier's Local Legal Services team and it was a unique privilege for Ogier to have assisted the Guiton Group throughout all phases of Guiton's ownership of ITEX."

Other notable transactions which the Local Legal Services team have recently been involved with include providing employment law advice in relation to the new housing and work regulations in Jersey and the sale of St. Pierre Park Hotel in Guernsey by SandpiperCI.

The Channel Islands Local Legal Services team comprises: Jersey partners Jonathan Hughes, Raulin Amy, Sally Edwards, Steve Meiklejohn, Julie Melia, Nigel Sanders and Nick Williams; as well as managing associates Sara Johns, Michael Little, Jane Wycherley and senior associate Elena Moran; together with Guernsey partners Caroline Chan, Simon Davies and Mathew Newman, and associate Catherine Moore.
