BL69_coverIssue 69 of Businesslife is now available online.

Channel Islands businesses are rapidly turning their attention to the changing needs of their customers, the new operating environment and the opportunities of a new world created by the coronavirus pandemic.

As a result, this issue of Businesslife explores the future outlook of a variety of sectors, hearing from leading figures on how they expect their sector to change and how they are adapting their organisations to seize the opportunities of tomorrow.

Jon Watkins, Editor-in-Chief of Businesslife, says: “When the coronavirus pandemic erupted, we understandably saw a period of uncertainty and many sectors pausing to manage the disruption caused by it.

"But there’s a real sense now that business leaders want to move forward – and the starting point for that is to analyse and assess what’s changed, where demand will be in the future, and how they can adapt to meet future customer and client demand. That’s why we explore how various sectors will be impacted.”

Adapting to the new world

One of the sectors we focus on in this issue is the wealth sector. Lockdown has pushed many wealthy families together for a prolonged period of time and this, combined with the continued transfer of wealth to the Millennial generation, is resulting in a greater demand for ‘purpose’ in wealth strategies.

Our articles find that there is a great opportunity for service providers to meet these demands – if they can connect with their new and changing audiences.

As our article explains: “There is a sense that recent events have opened up not just immediate opportunities for the private client sector in the Channel Islands but new challenges that practitioners would be wise to address without delay in order to bring greater value to their clients and their own organisations."

Emerging opportunities

New opportunities are emerging in other areas following the lockdown period. Our article exploring changes in the real estate sector, for example, finds that while some parts of the sector have been hit hard during the pandemic, opportunities are emerging.

The shift to more online purchasing is seeing greater demand for distribution centres and warehousing, for example – good news for those with investments in logistics real estate.

Meanwhile, the esports sector has also grown in popularity during lockdown – meeting some of the demand from sports viewers at a time when many traditional sports have been put on hold.

Our article finds the sector is attracting audiences in greater numbers – and that could mean it starts attracting investors in greater numbers too.
