BL67_COVERIssue 67 of Businesslife is now available online.

The rapid escalation of the coronavirus pandemic – resulting in huge loss of life and more than half the world’s population being placed in some form of lockdown or restricted movement – has put a huge burden on organisations as they drastically fight to survive.

With global markets fluctuating wildly, staff unable to attend offices, and many sectors and industries forced to close down completely, the business world is under huge day-to-day pressure.

However, businesses – and individuals – across the Channel Islands have been responding with great togetherness and spirit. In the latest issue of Businesslife, we explore the islands’ response, and the reasons why they are perfectly placed to respond when we return to some semblance of normality.

Jon Watkins, Editor-in-Chief of Businesslife, says: “It’s clear this is an unprecedented global event and that the impact on Channel Islands business has been huge. However, as we hear from Jersey and Guernsey business leaders in this issue, the islands’ past experience of adapting to change put them in great stead to retain their position as an international finance centre of choice when things begin to return to normal.”

Wealth strategies

In this issue, we also explore the best strategies for investors when normality resumes, asking whether the best approach during more stable times is ‘timing’ the market to cash in on predicted fluctuations or leaving your money in for the long run to ensure you capture the benefits of the good days. We look at the pros and cons of a variety of investment strategies to drive wealth.

Strong foundations

In our lead interview for this issue, we speak to Andy Finch, who recently took over as CEO, International, at Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management, on his plans for growing the business.

He tells us that, while the business looks to pursue international opportunities, the Channel Islands remain the foundation for its activities.

He says: “While we work closely with other regions, the Channel Islands continue to be at the heart of our operation. If you look at the figures, we have close to 200 people across the Crown Dependencies, 130 of whom are in Guernsey – which is without doubt the beating heart of the business.”

Elsewhere in this issue we also look at:
• The role of women in investing
• How investors are finding new yield opportunities
• Whether the green agenda has reached its tipping point
• The rise of India’s wealth population
• Why the Channel Islands are becoming home to superyachts
• The continuing allure of luxury watches
• Whether you could make money from your personal data.
