Issue 63 of Businesslife now online!

BL63_COVERfinalIssue 63 of Businesslife is now available online.

In our cover feature for this issue, we explore a growing challenge facing businesses across the Channel Islands and elsewhere – poor mental health among employees. Surveys reveal the problem is particularly prevalent in the high-pressured financial services sector, which dominates Jersey’s and Guernsey’s economies.

Many employers across the islands are working to change this issue from a taboo to one that's openly discussed and supported in the workplace. We’ve spoken to Utmost Worldwide, Deloitte and Fairway Group about the solutions they are putting in place to make this transition.

Eila Madden, Editor-in-Chief of Businesslife, says: “Unless more companies such as these come forward to acknowledge the issue and share potential solutions, this is a problem that will continue to dog the financial service sector, impacting recruitment and retention, reputation and, ultimately, business results.”

How to handle a cyber attack

Another growing threat to business reputation and results is the onward march of cyber attackers. As they come up with even more ways of finding cracks in company firewalls, we take a look at what firms should do if their digital defences are breached.

The secret behind JTC’s success

In our lead interview for this issue, we speak to Nigel Le Quesne, the CEO of fund administration and trust company JTC, as he prepares to make his debut as a guest lecturer at Harvard Business School.

This autumn, JTC’s shared ownership model will feature as a case study in the prestigious business school’s MBA course. Nigel tells us why he thinks the model has been at the heart of the company’s 30-year growth story.

Elsewhere in this issue we look at:
• How to be an expat
• The rise of regtech
• The trends putting globalisation under pressure
• Latest developments in employee savings schemes
• How to pass on your digital assets
• The rise of the compliance officer
• Is the world is ready for People’s QE?
