IoD webinar to focus on Guernsey recovery

Posted: 14/05/2020

Martyn DoreyThe next IoD Wednesday Webinar, to be held on 20 May, will examine how Guernsey’s economy can recover from the coronavirus pandemic, using economic models to assess potential routes to stimulate the economy.

Running from 10am to 10.45am, financial modelling specialist Martyn Dorey (pictured) will discuss how Guernsey’s economy can recover post-Covid-19.

The States of Guernsey has approved a loan to fund the island’s recovery and has published a framework to exit lockdown, so this webinar will assess the relative merits of investing in different areas to help Guernsey’s economy recover over different time horizons.

It follows recent announcements from both the UK and Jersey on exiting lockdown, which differ slightly from Guernsey’s approach.

The webinar will reference the most recent IoD Guernsey survey, in which members showed their approval for States of Guernsey borrowing, in particular to support significant investment in infrastructure. Respondents also supported re-opening schools and restarting off-island travel.

Martyn will discuss the impact of these different options and assess what types of infrastructure investments could support the long-term sustainability of the economy.

The webinar is free to attend, and attendees should download Zoom to take part.
