Former Minister and top financiers to speak at CISX dinner debate

A world class group of finance industry specialists and commentators including City financier, Sir David Howard and Lord Douglas Hurd of Westwell, will feature in The Channel Islands Stock Exchange Members Dinner to be held at Mansion House on Tuesday, September 17.

Sir David Howard, who will deliver the keynote address on behalf of the Lord Mayor, is chairman and managing director of Charles Stanley & Co Ltd., one of the largest private client stock broking firms. He was himself Lord Mayor of London from 2000 to 2001, a position also held by his father and grandfather. Sir David has held numerous posts within City organisations in an extensive finance industry career spanning more than 40 years. Currently, he chairs the Privileges Committee of the Court of Aldermen within the City of London Corporation; he is a director of APCIMS, the private client stockbrokers' trade association and the CISI and chairs the Chartered Investment and Securities Institute Examination Board.

The Members Dinner, entitled ‘Market Forces: Tax Neutrality, Trade & Treaties', provides an opportunity for CISX Members and their guests to hear and contribute to a debate on key issues affecting the global financial markets.

In a first for the Exchange, Lord Douglas Hurd will recollect upon his time as Minister for Europe, Secretary of State and Foreign Secretary. As one of the Conservative Party's most senior elder statesmen, Lord Hurd will offer his insights into current affairs and their impact on trade, answering questions posed by award winning financial journalist and commentator, Anthony Hilton, who is finance editor of the London Standard.

Also taking part this year are three senior figures from the global finance industry; Hendrik du Toit, CEO of Investec Asset Management; Bob Parker, Senior Advisor to Credit Suisse and Andrew Dougherty, Managing Director and head of Alternative Solutions, BNP Paribas, in the US. All three will participate in a panel debate chaired by Anthony Hilton.

Hendrik du Toit, who was named chief executive of the year at the Financial News 11th Annual Awards for Excellence in Institutional Asset Management in 2012, was a founding member of Investec Asset Management.

Bob Parker, who has spoken previously at CISX events in London and in the Channel Islands, is a member of Credit Suisse's investment committee. He is also chairman of the Asset Management and Investors Council and a Board member of the International Capital Markets Association.

Andrew Dougherty, who has been with BNP Paribas for more than twelve years, manages the group's US hedge fund solutions platform amongst his other responsibilities. Tamara Menteshvili, chief executive officer, CISX, who will host the event, commented: ‘We are honoured and delighted to have such pre-eminent public and business figures participating in the Exchange's flagship event. The calibre of speakers, with their combined intellect and insightful knowledge of the markets and the wider political environment should lead to some lively discussion and thought provoking comments for our Members and their guests.
