Glass Ladder (WDF) The Women's Development Forum (WDF) has received a major boost to its programme with Deutsche Bank coming on board as a major sponsor for the Glass Ladder programme.

The first Glass Ladder lunch meeting, which are specifically designed for women working within the business community who have aspirations to move up the corporate ladder, will be held at the Duke of Richmond on Tuesday 18 October at midday.

Speaking at this event will be the forum's Guernsey-based WDF Champions: Carol Goodwin (non-executive director of a FTSE 250 company), Denise Mileham (non-executive director of a FTSE 100 company, Anne Ewing (non-executive director and Institute of Directors chair), Sandra Platts (non-executive director and former Kleinwort Benson managing director) and, representing the sponsor, Elizabeth Dorsch, chief operating officer with Deutsche Bank.

WDF coordinator Michelle Johansen said the women will recount their own stories of being in the corporate world and climbing the “glass ladder” as well as highlighting what was needed to support more women to achieve senior management roles in Guernsey.

“The aim of the WDF Glass Ladder is to help provide mentoring, support and development for the current and future generations of women working in businesses. By sharing and learning together through our semi-structured, facilitated conversations WDF members build strong network connections in a collaborative and fun environment.”

Mrs Johansen stressed that the aim of WDF for this year was to broaden the membership and to ensure the female workforce, from the young to the experienced, had access to a dynamic information-sharing and networking environment.

“We are so grateful to Deutsche Bank for sponsoring the Glass Ladder for the year. Their input will be invaluable and their funding of the events means we can really achieve our aims of focusing on developing, supporting and mentoring the next generation of female directors and senior leaders,” she said.

“Guernsey has a wealth of female talent but in many cases women are working below their potential, and/or self-selecting out of the system.”

WDF champion Carol Goodwin said: “What is more important to me than anything I might have achieved in my own career is to be able to assist others in reaching their full potential – for me this spells ‘success'. The WDF is the perfect vehicle to encourage this success.”

Joining the WDF at £100 per year entitles the member to attend five events during 2011/12. New developments for Glass Ladder will also be announced in the coming weeks.
