Guernsey's leading image rights specialist, Jason Romer (pictured), will address an audience of tax specialists in Monte Carlo this week. Mr Romer, a partner at Channel Islands law firm Collas Crill, will present the uses and benefits of Guernsey's image rights legislation at the ITPA (International Tax Planning Association) event today (Monday 10 June 2013). The International Tax Planning Association is a multi-disciplined association of over 1000 bankers, trust officers, finance directors, accountants, lawyers and others with a practical interest in the tax aspects of cross-frontier transactions. Mr Romer said: "This legislation demonstrates that Guernsey is the jurisdiction of choice for the protection of people's assets. At the conference I will present the opportunities that image rights in Guernsey create." Guernsey is the first jurisdiction to create a registrable image right, enabling effective management and control of the commercial use of a person's identity, and images associated with that person, including distinctive expressions, characteristics or attributes. Collas Crill IP has worked with a number of high profile personalities from the worlds of sport, music and entertainment to protect their personal brand and identity since the image rights registry's launch earlier this year. Mr Romer is a thought leader in Guernsey image rights, having been instrumental in the creation and design of the ground breaking new law which came into force at the end of 2012.
