Deloitte launches international trust tax events

Posted: 06/02/2020

Deloitte's Channel Islands Private Client team is holding its first International Trust Tax events in Guernsey and Jersey this month.
Trusts, including international pension trusts, are increasingly coming into the spotlight, with tax authorities around the world placing extra tax risk and a higher governance burden on trustees. Trustees can be brought within the scope of tax as a result of the residence of beneficiaries or the ownership of certain assets.

There is often a misconception that pension trusts provide protection from these exposures, but that is frequently not the case. Even with careful planning, trustees may be subject to tax reporting and payment obligations in multiple jurisdictions.

The conference will focus on the three jurisdictions that consistently raise issues for trustees: France, the UK and the US.

A panel of Deloitte specialists will look at recent changes in tax legislation and their impact on trusts, highlighting tax, governance and reporting risks for trustees:
• Matt Maltby, Tax Senior Manager, based in Guernsey
• Alison Hill, Tax Manager, based in Guernsey
• US tax – Christopher Horton, Partner, and Svetlana Ivaniuk, Associate Director
• French tax – Orianne Acheriteguy, Tax Partner
• Pensions – Chris Bulleyment, Partner, and Varinder Allen, Associate Director
The conference will also offer insight into possible future focal points for tax authorities in these jurisdictions.
Where and when
• Guernsey – Wednesday 26 February, Old Government House Hotel, 09:00 to 12.30

• Jersey – Thursday 27 February, Pomme d’Or Hotel, 13:30 to 17:00

The conferences are free to attend. To book a place, email Mandy Sangan at
