The Collas Crill STEP Guernsey lecture series continues on 7 February with English divorce law for trustees.
Camilla Baldwin, the founding and senior partner of legal firm Camilla Baldwin, will discuss the financial proceedings, current trends and the relevance to trustees of English divorce law at the OGH on 7 February starting at 5.30 pm.
The 45 minute seminar, which costs £20 for members, £30 for non-members and £10 for students, will be followed by a question and answer session and an opportunity to meet the speaker and STEP Guernsey hosts.
Edward Stone, a trust expert at Collas Crill, said: “When a trust beneficiary gets divorced, an offshore trustee often has a very difficult balancing act to perform. Trustees must decide whether or not to submit to the jurisdiction of the English divorce courts, what information they should disclose, and how to respond to orders that purport to impact on the trusts. I am sure that Camilla with her wealth of experience will provide valuable guidance to the Guernsey trust sector on these and other such matters.”
Mrs Baldwin, who is ranked by the Financial Times Wealth Magazine as one of the ‘top ten divorce solicitors for the wealthy', is a Cambridge graduate who qualified as a solicitor in 1992 before joining top private client law firm Withers in London. With more than 18 years in family law, she established Camilla Baldwin in 2005.
STEP chairman Paul Hodgson said January's lectures were very popular and expected this to continue for the coming months.
“Camilla is an expert on this area of law and I am sure she will offer those in Guernsey's fiduciary sector some real insight into the issues which directly affect them,” he said.
Carey Olsen partner, Russell Clark, is scheduled to deliver the February lunchtime lecture at the OGH later in the month on the new Guernsey foundations law on a date to be confirmed.
