Collas Crill Image Rights Seminar at The Ivy

To launch the release of ground-breaking new Image Rights legislation in Guernsey, Collas Crill hosted a breakfast seminar on Tuesday 30 October to an audience of London's most prominent sports, media and entertainment representatives at well know celebrity haunt 'The Ivy', in London's West End.

Lawyers, agents, advisers and promoters representing some of the world's best known superstars attended the presentation by Collas Crill IP directors Jason Romer and David Evans.

Guernsey is the first jurisdiction to create a registrable image right. This legislation allows celebrities, sports professionals, teams and other media personalities – both living and dead - to structure their image rights in Guernsey, safe in the knowledge that there is a clear legislative framework.

David Evans says “It is a world first and is something which Guernsey should be very proud of. It represents a bold move by Guernsey and is the culmination of several years hard work by all concerned."

The long-awaited Image Rights legislation has now been published and, subject to the Guernsey legislature passing it into law next month, will be in force as of 3 December 2012.

Channel Island law firm Collas Crill's intellectual property specialists are leaders among the architects of this robust and innovative new law, which draws on both trademark and copyright principles.

Jason Romer reflects on the success of the event ‘ We are delighted with the response and feedback following our seminar. This is a very exciting time in the development of personality rights and for IP generally. We are very much looking forward to the opening of the image rights register and to having formal protection for personality and image rights for the first time, anywhere in the world."

A further Collas Crill Image Rights event is coming soon in Manchester.
