Carey Olsen employment lawyer Rachel Richardson has become the first lawyer in Guernsey to successfully complete a Master of Law degree in employment law. This month, Ms Richardson, an associate at Carey Olsen, completed the two year qualification through De Montfort University in Leicester. She studied modules which focused on employment law in the context of the United Kingdom (UK) and the European Commission, company and individual employment law, collective labour law and civil liberties in the workplace. Ms Richardson also wrote a 30,000 word thesis analysing all published Guernsey employment and discrimination tribunal decisions from 1998 to date. Carey Olsen litigation partner, Mark Dunster, said: “Rachel's exam success is incredible. She is the only employment lawyer in Guernsey to hold this high-level qualification and I'm confident that members of our employment team and our clients will benefit from her newly-gained knowledge and insight.” Ms Richardson said: “This qualification has broadened and crystallised my technical knowledge of both UK and Guernsey employment law.” Ms Richardson was mentioned earlier this year in Chambers Europe 2012: “Clients appreciate the way she cuts to the chase and presents the options in a pragmatic way. She is confident, knowledgeable and not afraid of a fight.”
