States of Guernsey seeks business views on Brexit

Posted: 02/08/2018

Businesses in Guernsey are being asked to share information and views on Brexit, with the States of Guernsey commissioning BMG Research to carry out a study of the potential impact of Brexit on businesses in the bailiwick.

The researchers will contact firms in Guernsey, Alderney and Sark from next week to obtain information about their trading and employment practices, and to gather views on the opportunities and challenges of Brexit. The researchers will also ask for opinions on joining the World Trade Organisation.

The findings of the research – commissioned by the Committee for Economic Development, with the Policy & Resources Committee – will be used by the States to inform work to plan for the UK's exit from the European Union.

The research will also help the States prepare for the future economic framework between the UK and the EU, and any opportunities that may arise for the bailiwick, an important aspect of which involves preparing to join the WTO under the UK's membership.

BMG Research will conduct the survey primarily by telephone to a sample of local businesses of varying sizes and economic sectors. The survey will run until mid-September.

• Any business not contacted directly, or which does not wish to participate in a telephone survey, can complete an online version of the survey. Details will be made available later this month via gov.gg/brexitsurvey

• Businesses can also request to take part in the telephone survey, by supplying their contact details to the survey project team at BrexitSurvey@gov.gg
