The voice of BBC Radio 4's Today programme, Guernsey-born broadcaster Sarah Montague will moderate this year's Guernsey Institute of Directors annual debate which will take place on Thursday 3 October at Beau Sejour.
Tickets for the event go on sale on Wednesday 26 June – last year all 500 seats were sold within 15 minutes.
Two panels will participate in the debate and the names of the panellists will be announced shortly.
The debate will look at Guernsey's fitness for purpose from both internal and external perspectives. It will challenge whether the island has a sound and effective management and infrastructure and also how robustly it is able to deal with external threats and challenges from the UK, US and EU and against a raft of new regulation and legislation.
Sarah Montague began her journalistic career with Channel Television. She joined the BBC in 1997 for the launch of BBC News 24, having previously worked for Reuters and Sky News. She has also presented Newsnight and Breakfast with Frost.
Her work in the corporate sector has included interviewing, hosting and moderating at a large number of events.
Chairman of the IOD's Guernsey branch Mark Palfrey said: “The challenges for Guernsey don't get any easier but there remain significant opportunities for the island which has shown itself to be resilient, innovate and resourceful in the past.
“This is the annual occasion at which the business community can offer observation and input into how the island should be positioning itself in order to survive and prosper.
“We are very grateful that Carey Olsen continues to be our principal sponsor and this support enables us to welcome back an experienced moderator with the benefit of local knowledge who I'm sure will add an impressive dimension to the proceedings.”
John Greenfield, Managing Partner of Carey Olsen, said: “This event thrives on its audience participation and interaction and it remains very important that business people, as key island stakeholders, are heard loud and clear in relation to Guernsey's future. Carey Olsen is delighted to continue its association with the Guernsey branch of the IOD and this event in particular.”
Individual tickets, which will be allocated to a club table, will cost £75.00, while the cost for a table of 10 will be £750.00. They are available online at the following website address: http://ioddebate2103.eventbrite.com. The website page will become active for the purchase of tickets at 9 a.m. on Wednesday 26 June, on a first come, first served basis.
