Panellists announced for Jersey IoD Annual Debate

Posted: 07/08/2018

The island’s chief Brexit negotiator, the Chairman of its biggest telco, and a tax expert will be among the panellists discussing the fundamental issues facing Jersey at this year’s IoD Annual debate.

IoD Jersey’s flagship event – this year entitled 'Is Jersey’s Economic Model Sustainable?' – takes place on Thursday 20 September at the Royal Jersey Showground.

The keynote speaker will be author and broadcaster Leo Johnson, who, as a Partner at PwC, also leads the firm's Disruption practice. And the returning moderator is renowned news broadcaster Alastair Stewart.

More panellists will be announced in the coming weeks, but so far the following are confirmed:
• Ian Gorst, External Relations Minister
• Geoff Cook, CEO, Jersey Finance
• Tracy Garrad, CEO, HSBC in the Channel Islands and Isle of Man
• Phil Male, newly appointed Chairman of JT
• Tony Moretta, CEO, Digital Jersey
• Gerald Voisin, owner, Voisins Department Store
• John Riva, Executive Director and Head of Tax, KPMG Channel Islands

The debate will pick up on several key themes:
• Is our model of low taxes but high-quality services sustainable? Do we need to accept a reduction in scope and/or quality of services or be willing to pay more?
• Almost 10 years on from its introduction, is zero-ten working and is it time to reassess the fundamentals of our tax regime?
• Does economic growth need population growth and, if it does, will we need to accept a slower pace of growth if we want to control our population?

Places can be booked through www.iod.je and further information is also available at the IoD Jersey LinkedIn Group and by following @iodjersey and #iodjsydebate on Twitter
