Mourant advises on landmark blockchain deal

Posted: 22/05/2019

Mourant has advised blockchain specialist 20|30 on the first ever settlement of privately offered equity using blockchain technology in the European Union.

The Mourant team acted as Guernsey counsel, led by Corporate Partner Frances Watson, with assistance from Associate Alasdair McKenzie. Eversheds Sutherland acted as lead onshore counsel.

20|30, a UK company, aims to use blockchain technology and tokenised equity issuance to enable greater liquidity in start-up and other corporate equity investments, through the increased ease of investor access and a quicker and cheaper route to market for issuers.

Its inaugural issuance was conducted through the UK FCA Sandbox, in collaboration with an FCA-authorised UK custodian.
