Barry Ryan-KPMG
Accountant Barry Ryan has joined KPMG in the Channel Islands as a director in the firm's audit team.

Returning to the island after working in his home town of Dublin for the past four years, Mr Ryan and his family are very excited to be back in Guernsey again.

Mr Ryan spent six years at KPMG in Guernsey between 2002 and 2008 where he progressed from a senior auditor to a senior audit manager. He originally qualified with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ireland at Grant Thornton in Dublin, working on a varied portfolio of clients within the manufacturing and construction industries. Keen to develop within the financial services industry he moved to Guernsey in 2002 where he gained a significant amount of experience auditing alternative investment and private equity funds.

It was at KPMG in Guernsey that he met his Scottish wife, Faye and both were very eager to return to work on the island one day.

“I have kept in touch with the firm at director level and they knew that we were eager to return to the island should an opportunity arise. Because of my existing knowledge of the island and the firm's client base, I hope to be able to hit the ground running.

“It's very exciting to be back - it really feels like coming home. The island is a perfect place to bring up children and offers a very good work-life balance,” said Mr Ryan.

The wealth of experience Mr Ryan has gained within the private equity funds sector is likely to form a large part of his role, as well as working on a broader financial services portfolio. His role is likely to extend into helping to grow the business, as well as training and the development of staff, something he particularly enjoyed during his time in Dublin.

Mark Thompson, Chairman of KPMG in the Channel Islands is very pleased to have Mr Ryan back in the fold.

“Barry has joined us to replace Ewan McGill who recently moved to our office in Bermuda where he will strengthen the links across our islands' network within KPMG. Barry was the ideal candidate for the job, not only because of his extensive experience of private equity and alternative investments but also because of his existing understanding of the finance industry here in Guernsey.

“We are delighted that someone of Barry's calibre is returning to KPMG and we are sure that he and his family will settle back into island life with ease,” said Mr Thompson.
