Jersey Institute of Law announces Women in Law event

Posted: 17/02/2020

The Jersey Institute of Law is holding a mini symposium, entitled Women In Law, on Friday 6 March to celebrate the success of women working in the local law and justice profession.

The event, which is free to attend, is being held ahead of International Women's Day on Sunday 8 March.

Murielle Nicolas, Director of Administration at the Institute of Law, said: “One hundred years ago, women were barred from working in law. They weren’t even allowed to study the profession. We are delighted to have a panel of professional women who have achieved so much success in their chosen legal professions.”

The four guest speakers at the event are:
• Advocate Claire Davies, lecturer at the Institute of Law, who runs her own law firm specialising in family law
• Judge Bridget Shaw, who became the island’s first female magistrate in 2013
• Karen Houston, Acting Detective Sergeant at the Economic Crime & Confiscation Unit
• Sasha Holden, an academic who teaches human rights law at the Institute of Law.

The event will take place at the Institute of Law in the Turner Building at Highlands College. Tickets are available by clicking here
