Issue 61 of Businesslife now online!

BL61_COVERIssue 61 of Businesslife is now available online.

In this issue, we take a look at what’s keeping Channel Islands’ businesses busy on the compliance front.

New tax rules on substance – the subject of our cover feature – require businesses tax-domiciled on the islands to demonstrate that they have real operations here. Experts tell us that the regulation is likely to highlight the already high levels of substance that exist across the islands, reinforcing their reputation as a well-regulated financial centre.

Elsewhere, Channel Islands subsidiaries of UK banks affected by new rules on ring-fencing retail banking activities have found themselves having to adjust to life outside the ring fence. We take a look at how they’re responding.

And, as we approach the first anniversary of the General Data Protection Regulation regime, we ask if businesses are ready for the next data protection deadline – the end of the GDPR transitional relief period on 25 May 2019.

Eila Madden, Editor-in-Chief of Businesslife, says: “Across all areas of new regulation, we’re hearing similar messages: high levels of compliance, low levels of complacency and opportunities to innovate and attract new business.”

This issue’s lead interview is with Fiona Le Poidevin, CEO of The International Stock Exchange Group. Despite delivering record listings growth in 2018, Le Poidevin is not resting on her laurels. She tells Businesslife that in a fast-changing and competitive landscape, the exchange – and the islands as a whole –need to be out in the global marketplace, showing what we can do as jurisdictions.

Other features in this issue include:
