IoD Guernsey to revisit key issues at mid-term breakfast debate

Posted: 19/05/2014

A panel, including Chief Minister Deputy Jonathan Le Tocq, will revisit some of the key issues that emerged during last autumn’s IOD debate.

The breakfast event, sponsored by Carey Olsen, will take place on Thursday 22 May.

Internet connectivity and bandwidth, the machinery of government and the marketing of Guernsey were three key strands of last year’s debate. The panel will be asked whether any progress has been made over the last seven months.

Moderating the event will be Channel Islands business journalist James Falla.

In addition to Deputy Le Tocq the panel will comprise the Chief Officer of the Commerce and Employment Department, Jason Moriarty, Managing Director, JT (Global Enterprise) Paul Taylor and IOD Guernsey branch chairman Mark Palfrey.

Mr Palfrey said: “We are particularly pleased to be able to stage this interim event, rather than allow the issues which were raised last year to fade away and perhaps be replaced by fresh topics next October. As an experienced local journalist James Falla has his finger on the pulse of Guernsey business and current affairs and we’re confident that he will press the panellists on what progress there’s been since last October. It should prove to be an illuminating 90 minutes and we’re expecting a strong demand for the limited places available.”

John Greenfield, managing partner of event sponsor Carey Olsen, said: “It can be easy to go away from the annual debate and almost forget about the points raised, until a feeling of dÉjà vu the following year. This excellent new initiative will give the IOD a chance to evaluate what has been done or could be done to address the issues that emerged from  last autumn’s main debate.”

Coffee and bacon sandwiches will be served from 8 a.m. with a prompt start to the panel event at 8.30 a.m. and a 10 a.m. finish. Tickets cost £10 each

Bookings can be made online at http://iod220514.eventbrite.com or by sending a cheque, made out to the IoD Guernsey Branch, to Tony Brassell, IoD Guernsey, PO Box 221, St Peter Port, Guernsey, GY1 3NS.
