Innovation, disruption and crime on agenda at Jersey private wealth conference

Posted: 25/04/2017

Jersey Finance’s annual private wealth conference in London next month will focus on how the international wealth management industry is responding to unprecedented market disruption, regulatory change and the rise of 'post-truth' politics.

The half-day event – entitled A New Harmony – takes place on 16 May. It will feature broadcaster and political commentator Nick Robinson, who will offer an insight into the rapidly changing UK and wider political environment.

A discussion will take place between Professor Jason Sharman, the Sir Patrick Sheehy Professor of International Relations at the University of Cambridge, and Jersey Finance CEO Geoff Cook, on global financial markets. They will discuss money laundering and the role of international financial centres in combatting financial crime.

In addition, tax and financial regulation specialist Richard Hay will speak on how IFCs are adapting in an increasingly complex market to meet the needs of globally mobile clients, and behavioural economist and journalist Tim Harford will give a closing address.

A series of discussion sessions will examine how IFCs s are differentiating themselves as private wealth management centres, with a focus on reputational advantage, legislative innovation, and moves into emerging areas such as philanthropy and impact investing. Panellists include:
• James Quarmby, Stephenson Harwood
• Tim Robinson, Schillings
• Siobhan Riley, Carey Olsen
• Zillah Howard, Bedell Cristin
• Kathryn Purkis, Serle Court
• Naomi Rive, Highvern
• Professor Andrew Morriss, Texas A&M University School of Law
