Guernsey Chamber releases statement on air links

Posted: 22/06/2017

The Guernsey Chamber of Commerce, the Guernsey International Business Association, the Confederation of Guernsey Industry and the Guernsey Institute of Directors – known collectively as the G4 – have issued a statement on the forthcoming Policy and Resources Medium Term Plan:

“The G4 business organisations of Guernsey, including the Young Business Group of the Chamber of Commerce believe that investment in transport connectivity is critical to the long-term success of the island from both an economic and social perspective.

“The G4 have recently conducted a survey to fully understand our respective members’ views in relation to the transport connectivity issues currently faced on Guernsey. In this survey 93 per cent of the 668 respondents did not feel the island has adequately future-proofed its transport links. The survey makes it clear that options for investment to improve connectivity need to be considered as a priority.

“As such, the G4 consider it is critical that, as a prospective pipeline project, the policy and resources plan should include the future development of Guernsey’s air link infrastructure to better meet the island's future social and business connectivity needs (including, among other options, an extension of the existing runway).

“As with any prospective infrastructure projects, any review must be a balanced appraisal of each option, including social, economic and environmental considerations.”
