A new Registrar of Companies has been appointed by the States of Guernsey's Committee for Economic Development.
Mat Desforges, who will take up the post in early 2019, will move from his current post as Policy Adviser for Financial Services Development in the Office for Economic Development.
He will be responsible for delivering strategic direction and managing the Guernsey Registry, which is responsible for administering the Register of Companies, the Register of Foundations, the Register of Limited Liability Partnerships and the Register of Limited Partnerships.
In addition, it is home to the Islands Intellectual Property Office, and the Charities and Non Profit Organisations Register.
Mat will also be responsible for a small team that liaises with Guernsey businesses, external bodies and key stakeholders, including the Guernsey Financial Services Commission and Guernsey Finance, as well as other States bodies.
Over a 25-year career, Mat has worked with PwC and held various accountancy and consultancy roles in New Zealand and Australia. He relocated to Guernsey in 2002 to work with Collas Crill as Finance and Operations Director, and went on to spend two years in Alderney as Commercial Director of Alderney Renewable Energy. Mat moved back to Guernsey to join the States of Guernsey in 2011.
The Guernsey Registry was established in 2008 and its main functions include examining and storing information on the various registers. It has an annual turnover of approximately £9 million and all surplus returns are directed to the general revenues of the States of Guernsey.
