The impact of Brexit on the future of the offshore economy and the importance of understanding the potential repercussions on the local finance industry will be discussed at an event to be held by the GTA University Centre in the new year.
The event – The Future of Offshore in a Post-Brexit Economy – will take place on 17 January and will feature Dr Savvas Savouri (pictured), Chief Economist for Toscafund Asset Management and a leading economic commentator in the UK.
The hour-long talk will be followed by an interactive panel session with Guernsey finance industry experts, moderated by James Falla, Communications Manager at Guernsey Finance.
“The shape of the future for offshore jurisdictions like Guernsey has never been more uncertain, as Brexit continues to dominate the political and economic conversation,” said Dr Savouri. “Understanding and adapting to the implications of exiting the EU, in whatever form it may take, or dealing with matters if exit is delayed or indeed reversed, will be vital to ensure the offshore community can continue to thrive.
"It will thrive too by developing strategies to capitalise on China’s ever-growing need to have financial hubs in the western hemisphere.”
The event will be held at the St Pierre Park Hotel from 4pm to 7pm on 17 January. Early bird tickets are available before Friday 21 December for £40. Any bookings made after this will be £45.
