Carey Olsen teams in Jersey have supported the launch of two funds using the Jersey Expert Fund regime.
Its investment funds team has advised Appian Capital Advisory on the launch and final close of Appian Natural Resources Fund II, the private equity manager's second fund focused on the mining sector.
Fund II, which has been established as a Jersey Expert Fund, was oversubscribed and reached its hard cap of $775m.
It will pursue the same strategy as Appian's first fund, focusing on global investments in metals and mining assets, particularly in Brazil, Australia, Mexico, Peru, Chile and Canada, where Appian has existing operations.
The Carey Olsen team advised on structuring, corporate, financing and regulatory aspects related to the fundraising effort and was led by Partner Robert Milner (pictured right), with assistance from Senior Associates Arindam Madhuryya and Rose Clements.
Montana Capital fund
In a separate transaction, Carey Olsen's Jersey funds team has advised Swiss investment adviser Montana Capital Partners on the launch of its fifth secondary fund, mcp Opportunity Secondary Programme V, which recently held its final closing at a hard cap of €1.3bn in committed capital.
During a brief fundraising period, investors included sovereign wealth funds, pension funds, insurance companies, family offices and foundations from Europe, Asia, the Middle East and US.
Again using Jersey's Expert Fund regime, the fund focuses on solutions for investors to reshape and optimise their portfolios and covers the full range of co-investments directly into companies, single fund stakes, small portfolios, fund of funds stakes, and structured solutions to reduce risk capital.
