John Greenfield-Carey OlsenJohn Greenfield, Carey Olsen's head of litigation in Guernsey, has won the 2014 Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Specialists (ACTAPS) Award for Contentious Offshore Lawyer of the Year.

Mr Greenfield (pictured) was recognised alongside other lawyers from international leading law firms and barristers chambers including Withers and Wilberforce Chambers.

ACTAPS is a membership-based industry body specialising in trust and probate matters. The group provides a forum for specialists to exchange knowledge and experience and meets regularly to discuss issues in the field and offer training. Each year the committee meets to decide upon the recipients of the awards based upon their active legal work over the previous twelve months.

Mr Greenfield undertakes the complete range of major litigation and advocacy work including trust litigation asset tracing, multi-jurisdictional disputes and commercial litigation. He was enrolled as a solicitor in England in 1975 where he was a partner in a law firm before moving to Guernsey in 1980. After working as in-house counsel and trust manager for an international merchant bank, he qualified as an advocate with Carey Olsen and has been a partner in the firm since 1986.

Mr Greenfield said: "I have been a member of ACTAPS for a number of years and its specialist nature makes it an authority and a great asset for lawyers in this field. In offshore law, contentious trust proceedings are commonplace and there are many specialist practitioners so to have been recognised by the panel of leading lawyers in this field is an honour.  It certainly has been a very busy year for me and for the wider team with a number of challenging cases to deal with and this is certainly a welcome recognition of that hard work."
