Jan Golaszewski - Carey OlsenJan Golaszewski has joined Carey Olsen's Cayman Islands office as counsel in the dispute resolution and litigation department.

The appointment follows the launch of Carey Olsen's Cayman Islands litigation offering in September 2013 with the appointment of partner Michael Makridakis and the subsequent appointment of associate Sophia Harrison in November of the same year.

Mr Golaszewski (pictured) joins the firm's expanding Cayman Islands practice. Prior to joining Carey Olsen he practised at Maples & Calder in the Cayman Islands for five years and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in London and Hong Kong for eight years.

Mr Golaszewski advises clients in contentious, semi-contentious and advisory matters related to offshore and investment funds.  His practice has an emphasis on multi-jurisdictional commercial litigation and arbitration, fraud and asset tracing, regulatory issues and judicial review proceedings.  Many of his previous cases have involved interim protection for creditors and shareholders.  Mr Golaszewski is an experienced advocate, appearing regularly in the Grand Court and the Cayman Islands Court of Appeal.  He was admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales in 2003 and as an attorney-at-law in the Cayman Islands in 2008.

The firm's head of litigation in the Cayman Islands, Michael Makridakis, said: "Our litigation offering through the Cayman Islands is quickly gaining traction and we retain an extensive and reputable case load.  Through Jan's appointment we will be further strengthening our position as a boutique offering in Cayman focussed on the investment funds sector and corporate insolvency matters."

Mr Golaszewski is included in the recommended lawyers tables in Chambers Global and was cited as "a real star in the making" in the recent 2013 edition.
