BL confirms sessions for Jersey NED forum

Posted: 03/02/2016

BL Events has confirmed the subjects that will be covered at its forthcoming NED conference.

The event, entitled 'A Board’s Eye View', is aimed at non-executive directors in the Channel Islands, with a particular focus on Jersey.

It is produced in partnership with Deloitte, is sponsored by BNP Paribas Securities Services and Optimus Group, and supported by Rossborough, and will take place on 16 March at the Pomme d’Or in St Helier, from 9am-12.45pm.

The event will bring together speakers and delegates from the Channel Islands and the UK, and will address some of the key issues facing NEDs right now, and those that are likely to arise in the near future.

The running order for the day is as follows:
• What should be on the NED agenda in 2016? How the ever-growing challenges of operating in the corporate and institutional sphere requires all directors and business leaders to be on top of their game.
• Duties and liabilities. A company’s directors and officers are increasingly placed in the hot seat by those who closely scrutinise every management decision and action they take. What is current best practice and what additional responsibilities are there for those acting in a regulated environment?
• Board dynamics and dynamic boards. Great board performance doesn’t happen by mistake. This session will take an interactive view on effective board development using a case study involving a fractured board of directors, a demanding Chairman and an incompetent CEO.
• The digital NED. From cyber crime to cutting-edge technology, how can boards address both innovation and risk in the digital age? What questions should NEDs ask, and do they have the skills to do so?
• From crisis to opportunity. Too many strategic decisions are made with an incomplete understanding of risks and the company’s capacity to manage those risks. This session will explore how risk control and management can lead to opportunity.
• The Jersey NED toolkit. This panel session will take a practical in-depth look at the role of the non-executive director, what is needed to be an effective member of the board, how to mitigate personal liability, and what are the best routes to securing the right position.

Carl Methven, CEO of BL Events, commented: "We could have put together a two-day event on NEDs, there was such a wealth of information out there. However, by distilling it down to these key, focussed sessions, we’re sure to provide a real thought-provoking and informative event."

Speakers are currently being lined up and a full timetable will be published in due course on the BL Global website.

A discounted rate of £195 is available until 29 February – the price will rise to £295 in March. Places can be booked by downloading the booking form from the BL website, or directly on Eventbrite.
