Appleby has appointed Robert Varley to its Corporate partnership, in the British Virgin Islands office.
Robert is currently based in Guernsey and will transfer to the BVI office once immigration approval has been granted. Before joining Appleby, he led the funds team at Babbé for eight years as Partner, before which he served as Managing Partner of Walkers’ Dubai office.
He has experience in high-profile private equity funds, real estate and infrastructure funds, as well as hedge funds and euro medium-term note programmes. He has also overseen the offshore aspects of cross-border takeovers and mergers for large corporates, banks, sovereign wealth funds and governments.
Robert was admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales in 1994 and the BVI in 2006, and has worked in Hong Kong and Singapore and (on secondment to the World Bank) in Orissa State, India.
