Appleby has advised on the sale of iconic Jersey brand: the Jersey Royal Company Ltd.
Lawyers based in the group’s Jersey office acted for the shareholders of The Jersey Royal Company Ltd (JRC) in their sale of JRC and its UK subsidiary, The Kent Potato Company Ltd, to the AIM Listed UK company Produce Investments plc which owns Greenvale, one of the UK's biggest potato suppliers.
Appleby partner and Jersey practice group head for Corporate & Commercial, Wendy Benjamin, led the team working on the deal, supported by Senior Associate, Danny Cole. The property aspects were handled by partner Tim Hart and Consultant John Bisson. Wortley Byers advised on the English law aspects.

Jersey Royal, which produces about 25,000 tonnes of potatoes a year and employs more than 500 people when the season peaks each May. The Jersey Royal new Potato is the only potato that carries the EU Protected Designation of Origin mark of authenticity. This was awarded in part, as a recognition of the unique methods of production.
